Project 2
Contextual Fit
This Project had us take an existing structure and try to create an add on that does not disrupt the existing design. The new structure must have its own presence while fitting the needs of the client. To accomplish this, we had to learn to use 3D masses and ordering systems to find the best way to incorporate the new rooms into the building while giving them their own presence. The building that we had to work with was the Smith house, designed by Richard Meier in 1965.
Project 2
Contextual Fit
The Smith Residence, a historic house located on the south shore of Connecticut, was just recently sold. The couple that bought the house have hired me to design an add on to the house so that they can add more rooms to better fit their needs. The couple requested that we include a Master suite, with a master bedroom, bath, and walk in closets. The wife comes from a large family and wants to have a large family room so her family could come and visit. As much as they want to spend time surrounded by family, the couple also requested a private master bedroom, as well as an exercise room and a formal outdoor area. The husband is a famous musician, so he requested that we incorporate his favorite instrument, the French horn, into the new structure.
